It has been an embarrassingly long while since you've been updated. For this we would like to offer our most sincere apologies, however, you'll be pleased to know that we never been more productive as a band than we've been in the past few months. In the dungeon that is our South East Portland recording studio, we've been whittling away at a long list of songs in the process of development for our next record and subsequent tour. We are not sure what form the recording will take yet, but we aren't cutting a single corner. Currently, an early March release sounds likely, but please stay tuned. I'm just hoping we finish before we wind up in a halfway house for caffeine addicts or a psychiatric ward from too little interaction with the outside world/excessive interaction with each other. Both options are likely at this rate.
FROM MAGIC PUNCHES
Since we've last updated the news we've been hard at work on a few things that have been and will continue to be presented over the next couple of months. First of all, we released a new short EP/single, called Books and Broken Windows. If you haven't yet, please check it out at iTunes. If you have been following though, you probably already know that a few of our songs were featured on the Summer playlists for Tommy Hilfiger, Lucky Jeans, and H&M to name a few. These licensing opportunities have come from a contract we signed with Texas-based branding company, DMX, who also featured us in their Artist Interview series in June.
Also, as many of you know, Bobby and I produce and engineer as well, and we've opened up shop in a new studio in SE Portland. We've recorded with a number of other musicians in the past, and this space will be a incredible place to work with more up-and-coming artists. For the time being though, we are fully engrossed in developing new material for an upcoming set of new recordings and a live touring show. We've set the bar one notch higher this time, and we can't wait until you can hear this next set of songs, both in studio recorded and live formats.
Until then, we're headed back to the cave...
Today we received great news! Our song, Love Song For a Foreign Exchange Student, was placed on Hollister Co.'s early summer playlist. This means that every Hollister store in the world will be jamming our music once every hour and a half until their next playlist comes out.
If you are looking for a way to help us keep the momentum rolling, download our EP "Brightly Colored Tapes" at itunes.com/magicpunches and post a review!!!
Lee and Bobby
For a month before the EP came out, we accepted pre-orders. With each order came the option to have a portrait of yourself rendered (disfigured) through a colored pencil sketch by myself and Bobby. Though some opted out (with no good excuse), a good number of you crossed your fingers and sent us a photograph. We have posted them all on our new "Art" page, in the Rogues Gallery. Please check them out, and let us know what you think.
In all seriousness, thank you to all of you who have bought the record. We are working like crazy on our upcoming recording, which is being funded by your support. For those of you who haven't yet done so, you can download "Brightly Colored Tapes" at iTunes and Amazon.
First of all, I want to give a quick thank you to all of you who pre-ordered a copy of the record. Hopefully you weren't too shocked by the vast discrepancy of artistry between the EP and the picture we drew of you. In the next couple of days we will be posting them all on this site in their collective glory. I have pasted the MP portrait to the bottom of this news entry. What can we say? Music is our passion, but drawing is our gift. We sold a bunch of copies ahead of time, which gave us a great start to affording the upcoming recording session. If you still wish to contribute, physical copies will continue to be available in our "music" section for 7 bucks. We will keep you posted on the recording session as soon as dates are solidified. Currently, its looking like a 4-5 song collection that will be out in late March/early April.
Yesterday, "Brightly Colored Tapes" was released for sale online. It is on itunes, amazon, rhapsody, napster, and many others. My personal favorite is hottopic.com. I didn't even know that they sold anything other than graphic tees and clip on earrings. Anyways, we are pumped to be promoting this record, and working on our next move. Thanks again to all of you for your continued support.
Today we are officially beginning the preorder promotion for the upcoming release of "Brightly Colored Tapes", Magic Punches' debut EP. Starting today, if you order your physical copy of BCT before January 11th, you will get a free download of "Fortune Cookie", a bonus track we recorded during the BCT sessions, and you'll be apart of an art project that will be featured on our website after the release. This art project will include you receiving a custom colored-pencil drawing of yourself created and signed by none other than... Magic Punches. The cost is only $7 and all of the proceeds will go toward our next recording session. Please visit the "Preorder" page for more info!
THANK YOU. MAGIC PUNCHES.
